Do you have an emergency plan but aren't sure if you could implement it in the event of a fire or flood in your archives? Not really sure what to do with the box of wet documents or photographs? Haven't had experience organizing and leading a response team? Then this is the workshop for you! This two day course uses a mix of lectures, group discussion, practical exercises and hands-on practise in salvage procedures to answer these questions and many more. Topics covered include:
- skills and attributes of an effective response team and leader
- health and safety issues in emergency response
- public relations and communication during an emergency
- salvage procedures for various types of archival records
- determining salvage priorities and handling the unexpected
- networking, training and resources
Please note the hands-on salvage procedures module will simulate as much as possible an actual emergency salvage scenario with wet archival materials to handle and deal with, so come prepared with casual clothes, comfortable shoes, and expect to engage in physical activity and to get a little bit wet.
